The Forgotten
Dales of Cumbria |
Drive over the North
Pennines at Hartside
One of the most scenic drives of our
region crosses the Pennine's at Hartside. Starting from the Tyne Valley at
Haydon Bridge it passes the Langley Castle Hotel on the way over to Alston
before rising to the top of Hartside, where the view over Cumbria is
breathtaking while enjoying a cup of tea in the cafe.
Pennine
Moorland
Other stops on this scenic route are
the Langley Hotel for Castle Accommodation, the Elk's Head in Whitfield for a
bar lunch on the east side, or the Shepherd's Inn at Melmerby where the Village
Bakery has a Tea Shop (View Web Site).
Melmerby can be accessed through Alston from the Weardale & Teesdale valleys
with their own variations to the scenery on a clear day.
